Getting the Full Story, Including Examples from Films Portraying Autism
Presented by: Cheryl Knight, PhD
This presentation offers an opportunity to refocus on and recommit to the importance of listening so that we can better get to the “Full Story.” I will share some examples of how some researchers and practitioners make formal efforts to better listen to the voices of others. I’ll also include some situations taken from various films to help us think through ways we can all be better listeners…and ultimately, get closer to the full story.
Beyond Reinforcement: Supporting Freedom and Dignity
Presented by: Randy Logan, PhD., MP
This presentation will offer an alternative vision of reinforcement – a vision that disrupts current approaches to behavioral support. For the most part, behavior “plans” will be overshadowed by an emphasis on the essential ingredients of a supportive relationship and the essential characteristics of the person providing the supportive relationship. Most importantly, it will be emphasized how this vision of reinforcement places cardinal value on individual dignity and autonomy.
